Guiding Scripture: Romans 8:13, For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”

🔴 Injured Party

Sinful behavior became less about offending God and more about satisfying a temporary desire. We refer to chocolate confections as sinfully delicious. Somehow the act of sin is watered down in this world. After all, if I want to enjoy something, I should, right?

Well, yes and no. All of our actions have consequences. The indwelling Holy Spirit helps us decide if our behavior is a transgression of divine law and would injure others. While the decadent dessert would not have a short-term impact, it could lead to repetitive unhealthy eating habits if it becomes addictive.

Apply God’s Word

In Romans 8:13, the Apostle Paul offers the solution to humanity’s problem of sin- the Holy Spirit. When Christ is alive in us, He empowers believers to overcome the limits of our flesh. The Holy Spirit gives and speaks life to the dead places of sin. God wants His children to live righteous lives united through our belief in Christ, our Savior.

The next time sin tempts you to behave outside of Christ’s character, stop and pray for help.

Technology makes it easy to gossip, slander, and injure others with our words. You have the power to control your thoughts and make better decisions moving forward. Be intentional about what you choose to document for others to witness. The reputation you seek to destroy may end up being yours.

Prayer: Lord, draw us near to You. When we are hurt, frustrated, or feel betrayed, help us. The mind of the Spirit is peace. As we face trials of various kinds, keep us disciplined to not disqualify ourselves by our actions and words. Amen
