Guiding Scripture: Romans 7:24-25 What a terrible failure I am! Who will save me from this sin that brings death to my body? 25 I give thanks to God. He will do it through Jesus Christ, our Lord. So in my mind, I am a slave to God’s law. But in my sinful nature, I am a slave to the law of sin.

🔴Struggling with Sin

The Apostle Paul continues to elevate the gift Jesus Christ offers as an alternative to the 613 commandments in the Jewish Torah. The problem with these extra laws was the Jews could not uphold them either.
But Christ
He offers hope through salvation and tells us to love God, love one another, and love our neighbors as ourselves. We are all each other’s neighbors.

I want to offer a few scriptures to help us effectively break cycles of sin and intentionally think about our words and actions.

Confession

By acknowledging our sins, we release its power over us. We can write it down in a journal to ponder the effects of our behaviors. Or we can pray to God through the Holy Spirit and enter our guilty pleas. Being specific with the actions further acknowledges our crimes against God to be restored into a right relationship.

1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

After we’ve specifically confessed, seek God to cleanse your thinking and renew your mind to think on things that would glorify Him.

Psalm 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Remember, it’s one thing for God to know your heart and understand your mind; it’s beneficial to you to know what you’re thinking. That is important when we desire to overcome the chains of sin. Demons are real, and deceiving spirits abound. If you don’t know ‘why’ you do certain things, it may be because you don’t have control of your mind.

1 John 3:20 For whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.

Sin torments kill, steals, and destroys us. Sometimes little by little, or at all once. But God wants us to prosper and live according to Christ. Embrace character development and seek opportunities to be uncomfortable. We can be at peace and fear nothing in this world because of Jesus, our Lord, and Savior.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.

There is nothing better than abiding with God and following His path for your life. That is done through mind, body, and spirit. Choose His peace and let nothing steal it away.

Prayer: Father, we thank you for your Word. Please help us in our unbelief that we may endure trials of various kinds. Amen
