Guiding Scripture: Romans 4:3, ‘What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

🔴What Does Scripture Say?

God gave us laws for our good so that we can present our free will ideas to Him. And, in turn, work cooperatively with God to produce the desired outcome. Being obedient is a choice.

Belief

Did you know that God knew you before you were born? (Jeremiah 1:5) It’s a peculiar thing to be connected to an all-knowing, infinite Creator. Like Abraham, we too can faithfully follow God and trust Him to provide for our every need. We can also believe God to do mighty and wondrous works.

Sometimes in our finite state, we lose sight of authentic faithfulness. That hurts our Christian testimony. When we plan to disobey God by procrastinating or ignoring His commands, there are consequences. I often think of children when they know they should do one thing but disregard their parents.

Assume

Don’t take God’s command to love for granted. (Deuteronomy 6:5) Attending church gatherings or religious events does not justify us or make one righteous. (Romans 3:20) We must be intentionally aware of who we influence by our actions. No matter how trivial they may seem, we will affect someone. We can believe God to make a radical change and faithfully lead us. Living a sacrificial life for God will be a credit to us as righteousness.

As you read today’s passages, think about Abraham’s life of faith. He knew and loved the One who led Him out of familiarity and into unknown territory. (Genesis 12:1) Abraham trusted God through faith and followed His commands before He wrote on stone tablets (Exodus 24:12, Exodus 34:1). Abraham is an example of God writing His Law on the hearts of His people. (Jeremiah 24:7, Hebrews 8:10)

Prayer: Lord, help us to go without knowing where because we trust you to guide our steps. We know what we believe; please help us in our unbelief so that our lives will glorify you. Amen.
