A Daily Purpose

Bible Study & Devotional (Day 189)

Written by: LaVonda McCullough

Guiding Scripture: Romans 8:26, “Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”

🔴 What Holds Us Back?

One of the biggest things holding us back from praying is not knowing where to start. Isn’t that always the most challenging part? Just starting?

What’s holding you back?

~ Are you worried about not having the “right” words to say and that you will mess it up and turn God off forever?

~ Do you nervously wonder if your words will align with God’s desire for you?

~ Perhaps you’re waiting for some clear guidance and a nudge to point you in the right direction?

Whatever it is,

NOW is the time to connect with God and start communicating with Him. If you are overwhelmed with this idea and not clear on what to pray, you can rest in the promise from Romans 8. He wants you to set aside intentional time to talk about what’s on your mind. He desires an intimate relationship with you. And God has provided a way for you, so you don’t have to worry about having the right words.

The Holy Spirit lives in us, and He knows the will of God, so He cries out with that knowledge for us when we are unsure of ourselves.

We can find rest in the silence as we invite the Holy Spirit to pray through us and intercede on our behalf.

The Message version says “in our wait” instead of “in our weakness.” Are words hard to come by right now? In this season? Well, friend, my heart has been heavy and overcome with grief, and there were no words of what to say; I am grateful for the presence of the Holy Spirit, who is a Comforter.

-Or maybe you asked and prayed the same prayer so many times that you just don’t know what else to say. Persevere.

Don’t stop.

Allow those days of no words to become the days of persevering in silence and letting the Holy Spirit intercede for you. The time is now to welcome the Holy Spirit to pray on your behalf and bring peace like never before.
