Guiding Scripture: 2 Kings 1:3 ‘But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Go up and meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going off to consult Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?’ 

🔴A Godless People

The book of Kings was originally one unified story retelling the tragic themes of twin kingdoms. In chapter 1, we find King Ahaziah, the genuine son, and successor of Ahab, on the throne of Israel.   

God Still Hears

Even when King Ahaziah wanted to consult Baal-Zebub like his father, Ahab, the Most High God, heard him. We read the repeated failure and sin befall his reign as Elijah the prophet sent a death message to the king. It was a manifestation of Ahaziah’s failure to consult God.

Awareness

As you read today’s passages, pay attention to the pattern. Turning away from God and seeking counsel from ungodly people will result in death.

Our God is extraordinary and continues to reveal His Sovereign power. Elijah called on God to consume the messengers with fire twice! The third commander recognized God’s power and humbled himself. 

Confession

While you go through your day, expect the Holy Spirit to lead you into understanding, repent of your known sins. Are you following godly advice? The Lord authenticates his messengers; all you need to do is ask.

Prayer: Lord, reveal my anger, jealousy, pride, and ego. Gently remind me of Your tremendous power over Heaven and Earth. You know me completely, Lord, and discern my thoughts from afar. You are acquainted with all my ways, yet You bless me with new mercies every day. Lord, You are too wonderful for me. Help me to abide in You gracious Abba Father. Amen
