Bible Study & Devotional Day 171

Guiding Scripture:  1 Kings 22:7 ‘But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the Lord here whom we can inquire of?”

🔴The ‘Yes’ People

I’m sure many of us have desired the Lord to bless an idea. We think it is the best solution, and in our excitement, we persuade others to buy in.

In today’s reading, King Jehosophat tells King Ahab to consult Yahweh before going to war. King Ahab did inquire through 400 lords. The term used is Adonay which meant anyone with authority, whether human or divine, could give advice.

1 Kings 22:7 is my lesson, and God shot.

Seeking wisdom from people of God should be done with discernment. Everyone who claims to follow the Lord Jesus Christ may not be faithful witnesses. Jehosophat knew the prophets King Ahab summoned were Baal worshipers, and he wanted an answer from the Most High God.

If we surround ourselves with people who fear challenging our plans or going against the desires of our hearts, that is sorcery. It’s time to break the spells by first seeking forgiveness and then repenting of sins. Those in our circles should have a reverential fear of God. Check your ‘yes people’ and ask if they feel comfortable speaking the truth from God.

Prayer: Lord, lead us in Your ways and help us to follow your wisdom. Our fear is of Your mighty nature; please do not let us make people our idols. Remove the false prophets from our lives that we may be Your light shining in the darkness. Your Word reminds us that we cannot be spiritually blind and lead others. Continue to work within the hearts of your people. Thank You, gracious Abba Father, Amen.
