Guiding Scripture: Psalm 95:1-11
🔺 A Gleaming Rock
by Irvine Saint-Vilus
When I was a little girl and did not know any better, I thought that every piece of jewelry that shined or sparkled was genuine and valuable. I was especially taken with rings and would feel overjoyed whenever I received the hard, plastic shiny jewels as gifts; or feel victorious whenever I retrieved them from toy vending machines.
It was not until I grew up that I realized a considerable difference between an authentic diamond and a fake, like cubic zirconia. Although they are both glassy stones that gleam in the sun, the diamond is the true gem that is worthy of admiration and esteem.
In the same way, there are many “cubic zirconia” in this world.
We can give our worship to a person(s) who captures the imagination, an object (like a car or a house), or money in the bank. These people or things may “sparkle” for a time, but they are fleeting and will not last.
Importantly, Psalm 95 points us to the “Diamond” of all time that will last forever! The Lord, God Almighty, is the One deserving of our worship.
Why is this the case?
Like an appraised diamond that proves true, this great passage of Scripture demonstrates that God is the Real Deal! He is the Rock of our salvation, our security, and safety (Psalm 95:1); the great King above all gods (other gods are artificial images or objects) (Psalm 95:3). God is the Creator who made the deep things of the earth, the hills, the sea, and who created us, His people (Psalm 95:5-7).
Through our relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we can experience the greatness of our God and be confident that He is truly the only One worthy to be praised and worshiped.
