Guiding Scripture: Proverbs 15:32 ‘Those who disregard discipline despise themselves, but the one who heeds correction gains understanding.’
🔴A Lesson Learned
I am guilty of going back to open doors that God has closed. I have willfully attempted to force myself into places that did not value my talents. Disregarding the Holy Spirit’s correction led to bitterness.
In today’s passages, we read of the second attempt to impress King David. 2 Samuel 4:6, Rekab and Baanah had not heeded the lesson of the Amalekite who claimed to have killed King Saul (2 Samuel 1:14-16). David’s righteous indignation welled up, and the men ordered to be killed.
As we go through the stories and learn the history of human behavior, we can ask ourselves: are my actions pleasing to God? If we disregard the discipline he has shown others under the same circumstances, why should we expect to be dealt with differently? The saying ‘history repeats itself’ is a truth we don’t readily acknowledge.
Has your life reflected an increase in understanding?
