Bible Study & Devotional Day 116

Guiding Scriptures: Psalm 95:8 “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah (quarreling) as you did that day at Massah (testing) in the wilderness,”

Luke 22:62, And he went outside and wept bitterly.

🔴 A Time to Mourn

Mourning our unbelief and not trusting God’s Word is rebellion. My faith shot for today’s assigned reading is the patience of our Lord. I’m not sure about you, but it is frustrating: to tell the truth, present evidence repeatedly, and no one believes you.

I wonder how much more frustrated our God must feel about me.

It’s easier to point fingers and blame society or the religious and world systems; however, that is not beneficial to our spiritual maturity. Being personally grieved by our actions should cause us to mourn our unbelief. (Luke 22:61)

That requires us to make a choice:

  1. We can cry out to God, repent, and ask Him to strengthen us. OR
  2. Continue to hide behind the confused state of our affairs.

Fear does not need to make you a coward.

As you read today, think about the winepress of your life:

  • What frightens you about your current situation? (Judges 6:5)
  • Who is terrorizing you and causing you to hide your talents or resources? (Judges 6:11)
  • Do you think God has abandoned you? (Judges 6:13) If so, why?

After you’ve meditated on His Holy Word, prayed, and submitted to His truth, ask God: Have I turned away from You? (Psalm 95:8)

Prayer: Lord, help me grieve and mourn the broken relationship I devised and help me remember Your new covenant. Ease my bitterness. Increase my awareness of our partnership. Please restore my ability to reach upward to you with a reverential attitude and outward to my neighbors with love. Show me Your will and help me tear down the idols in my life. Amen.
