GENESIS 46:1-47:31, MATTHEW 15:1-28, PSALM 19:1-14, PROVERBS 4:14-19

Guiding Scripture: Genesis 46:1-4, So, Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.2 And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, “Jacob! Jacob!”“Here I am,” he replied. 3 “I am God, the God of your father,” he said. “Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes.”

God’s Purpose will Prevail

Contributing Writer: Sheila Arrington

Have you ever felt led to do something so incredibly different and had never planned to do? Well, that is what is happening to Jacob! He is well past his years. The days of running away from his brother, marrying two wives, and having multiple concubines are far behind him.

As a matter of fact, both of his wives are dead. He is surrounded by his sons, grandchildren, and extended family. He probably thought I will just live out the rest of my days here in Canaan.

But God!

He assured Jacob that he would be with Him, do not fear, and no harm would come to Him. He and his family would have everything they needed and would find favor in the land of Egypt. And just as God promised, it was so.

Isn’t it just like God! We have our plans, agendas, vision boards, and the like, and then suddenly, Bam! God says not so, my daughter, my son, I want you to; Go ahead, you fill in the blank.

My Push

About three years ago, God called me to move. I was recently retired. He wanted me to leave my comfortable and recently remodeled home. A place that I had lived all my life; leaving my sisters, friends, and relatives and said, “Go!” At the time, I thought I was doing this for my husbands’ sake. However, little did I know that the place I was moving to was a great fertile ground for the ministry He had called me to. I am reminded of the scripture. “Many are the plans of man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will prevail.” I suspect Jacob had his plans; I know I had my plans. But God’s Purposes will always prevail.

Prayer: God help me to always follow you, even when we don’t have the whole picture, know the whole story let us trust and rely on you and watch you perform your perfect will in me.
